Fouta: origin, use and advantages

The fouta is originally the traditional Tunisian hammam towel. Woven from very good quality cotton.

It refers to a piece of fabric that is tied around the waist when entering the hammam. It is thin, supple and very absorbent.

The production of the fouta is artisanal; men are in charge of weaving using a semi-automatic loom which requires a lot of physical effort, and women generally attach the finishing touches by hand!

Compact and easy to carry, foutas are a perfect replacement for traditional, often heavy, terry towels. Choose a large size for the beach or pool; it can also serve as a sarong, as you can easily wrap yourself in it. For drying your hair, opt for a smaller one. Another advantage is that foutas dry quickly; however, the honeycomb weave version is more absorbent than the flat one.

As a tablecloth, it's both practical and original. It's easy to wash and will brighten up your tables. You can even use it to cover your armchairs or your sofa as a throw.

In addition, you now have the option to personalize your foutas with embroidery .
